Having a career as a qualified teacher it is now interesting to be involved in a primary school only from a governance standpoint. Throughout my career in education my main interests have been Music and teaching children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. My varied roles have included being a class teacher and head of music in several primary and middle schools, working for the Learning Behavioural Support Service and teaching piano and keyboard. As the Principal Area Director on the Senior Management Team for Worcestershire Youth Music, this role required liaising with headteachers and music teachers from over forty five primary and secondary schools in my area of the Wyre Forest and Hagley and delivering CPD sessions for teachers, staff and arranging concerts for schools in the area. For a few years I served on the National Education Committee for the Musicians Union and also continue to act as Head Judge for the annual Wyre Forest Primary School Choir Competition.

Having lived with my husband in the area for seventeen years, I know the area well and play the organ for some of our local churches, including St. Mary Magdalene, Broadwas and am now a member of the Lower Teme Valley PCC. As a member of the Cotheridge Arts Festival Committee I was involved in the creation of the Festival and also performed in one of the concerts. I prepared the choir for the Harvest Festival Service as well as working behind the scenes at the various events. It had been our hope to involve children in the Festival for 2020 but I look forward to involving children when we begin planning events for the future.

Although I have read and heard encouraging reports of the school, it was not until I became a Governor in December 2019 that I was able to appreciate the special feeling within the school family. I have been so impressed with the dedication of the staff and the children whom I have had the pleasure of meeting. I hope to bring some of my previous experience to my role as Governor to support and challenge the school as a critical friend.
