Welcome to Week one of the second half of the Summer Term. This week our topic focus will be The Animal Kingdom – Welcome to the Jungle! Below you will find English and Maths as well as Topic and PE ideas for the week. All of the spellings lists are now completed so if you wish to practise any spellings you find particularly challenging, please feel free to go over all past spelling patterns and rules.

Remember that you do not have to complete all of the tasks below. Work at a pace that suits your child, take regular breaks an enjoy the learning!

Welcome to Week Five of the Summer Term. This week in our 'Famous for More than Five Minutes' topic we are looking at famous sportspeople and you get to choose the person to focus your work on! Have a look at Activity Village for some ideas. Below you will find English and Maths as well as Topic and PE ideas. Please also try to read each day and have a go at practising spellings. Remember you do not have to complete all of the tasks below. Work at a pace that suits your child, take regular breaks and enjoy the learning!

Monday

There is a Maths focus for today. Year 5 will be looking at the 24 clock and Year 6 will be looking at pie charts. When using the Maths work from the Hamilton Trust, please begin by working through the ‘Learning Reminders’ before attempting one of either the mild, hot or ‘a bit stuck’ follow up activities. There is no expectation for the children to complete all of the practice sheets. The English is a Reading Comprehension from First News. There are two levels, with level 3 being the more challenging level. Select a level which is gives you a bit of a challenge!

Tuesday

The English focus for today involves looking advert writing. You will view a televsion advert and then after evaluating it, write your own advert. We would love to see or hear some of your adverts. Please send them to us so we can Tweet them! The Maths for today has been set on My Maths.

Wednesday

In Maths today, Year 5 will continue to learn about the 24 hour clock. Year 6 will be practising written division. The English is a quick write using a picture of a giant teapot!

Thursday

The English today looks at persuasion. There is a letter to read first of all and then a talk to prepare about ball games. The Maths has been set on My Maths.

In Maths today, Year 5 is focusing on mental division whereas Year 6 is focusing on conversions - KM to miles. The English is a BBC Bitesize session on brackets, commas and dashes.

Welcome to Week Four of the Summer Term. This week in our 'Famous for More than Five Minutes' topic we are looking at the very famous artist, Pablo Picasso. The focus today is English. Over the week you will be looking at and writing different types of poem. Today you will be comparing poems and then you will write about the features of a poem. The Maths has been set for you on My Maths.

The Maths focus today is negative numbers for Year 5 and calculating time intervals for Year 6. Be sure to use the extra resources to help you with your work today. When using the work from the Hamilton Trust please begin by working through the ‘Learning Reminders’ before attempting one of either the mild, hot or ‘a bit stuck’ follow up activities. There is no expectation for the children to complete all of the practice sheets. The English is a Quick Write using a picture as a stimulus.

The English for today is to read and listen to a rap and then to write your own version. We would love to hear some of these, so why not get a parent to film you and send them in! We can add them to the website and Twitter. The Maths has been set for you on My Maths.

The Maths for today is to compare and order negative numbers for Year 5 pupils and for Year 6 pupils the Maths involves 24 hour timetables. When using the work from the Hamilton Trust please begin by working through the ‘Learning Reminders’ before attempting one of either the mild, hot or ‘a bit stuck’ follow up activities. There is no expectation for the children to complete all of the practice sheets. The English is a lesson on relative clauses.
